the science of design strategy.

Built Experience Lab provides evidence-based design research services to interiors manufacturers, vendors, and design firms.

We specialize in linking built environment design strategy to human outcomes through a rigorous, data-driven process.

WIN the BID

INFORM the DESIGN

MEASURE the OUTCOME

the design vs. science gap

→ Design firms struggle to differentiate their work beyond aesthetics. Without rigorous data, design strategies feel anecdotal, making it harder to win high-stakes, research-driven RFPs or justify innovative solutions.

→ Manufacturers often make bold claims about human performance that aren’t backed by scientific validation. Architects and interior designers are increasingly demanding evidence-based metrics during product selection.

→ Without post-occupancy evaluation, there is no validation that design intent leads to actual human experience outcomes. POE protects a client’s investment by quantifying real-world performance.

positioning and marketing

WIN THE BID

We provide the evidence-based strategy, marketing collateral, and interview support needed to win projects by linking design intent to measurable human outcomes.

design development

INFORM THE DESIGN

We partner with firms and manufacturers to inform the design process, using both quantitative metrics and lived experience to validate design strategy and approach.

POST-OCCUPANCY EVALUATION

MEASURE THE OUTCOMES

We close the loop using rigorous social science methods to evaluate how a space actually performs, protecting the client's investment and ensuring design intent positively influences human experience.

ABOUT Dr. peditto

Founding Researcher

Built Experience Lab is led by behavioral scientist Dr. Kati Peditto. With a PhD in Human Behavior and Design from Cornell University, she translates evidence into practical strategies to create spaces that support human performance and well-being. She is widely recognized for her expertise in evidence-based design researcher, including features in the BBCThe Atlantic, and The Washington Post. Her work spans all sectors and building typologies, although she’s always partial to public projects in education and health.
